- We took the tree down today. Yay! I was tired of looking at it, and Jake was THRILLED to go out in the backyard for the first time since late November. I would say that now our living room looks bigger, but the Lightening McQueen tent he got for Christmas takes up most of the floor space. But he LOVES sitting in it, and it's good for him to have a quiet spot. (On Christmas Eve, Lou and I were sitting on the couch planning for the next morning, while Jake watched TV. I asked him "Well what are you going to do about the T-E-N-T?" Jake looked at me, thought for a second, and said "Teh-nnn-t. Tent? What tent?" Dangit! He did the same thing last week when I spelled out train. Priscilla and I have even tried words in pig latin, but he figures those out too!)
- Jake's current favorite show (other than The Suite Life with Zach and Cody) is Ninja Warriors. It's like that show that used to be on USA, American Gladiators (which I hear is coming back, actually), but it's in Japan and it's all people trying to prove their Ninja worthiness. Jake LOVES it. I personally like Hannah Montana. :)
- I discovered that the Zune I got for Christmas (Microsoft's answer to the iPod), which is 4 GB, holds 75 albums before it's full. I'm already lusting after the 80 GB one, but I think 5 days after I got the first one is a little soon to upgrade. (Or is it? Discuss.)
- I'm pretty sure I've watched the movie "Underdog" about 12 times in the last week. Jake thinks it's hilarious that at two points in the movie, there's a cat who just looks at Underdog and says "freak." So he's been going around saying it. Trying to teach him how it's ok to say silly things at home with family, but not to our friends or classmates. I'm not sure if it's sinking in or not. We call each other silly names like "Koo-koo nut butter head" or "Silly goose tooter butt" and I'm pretty sure he doesn't say things like that at school. I think.
- Jake now knows that 2x4 is 8. Earlier this week he begged me to make sweet tea with him, and I let him do almost everything himself. We needed to put 8 cups of water in the pitcher and we had a measuring cup that had 2 cups (and duh, we needed to fill it up 4 times.) He really learns well with object lessons . . . but now when I ask him what 2x4 is, just to be mean to me he says "7." Then I say "No, really, what is it?" And he says 8. Since he learned how to count by 10s recently, we're trying to move on to 5's, but he wants no part of that.
- He can also make popcorn by himself! (With supervision, of course. We've had dozens of discussions about this.) The other day he was playing while I rested on the couch, and suddenly I hear him in the kitchen. I jumped up to see him on a kitchen chair, reaching in the microwave. I asked what he was doing, and he had taken the popcorn out of the pantry, out of its wrapper, placed it in the microwave right side up, and was about to hit a button. I told him he couldn't use the microwave and he said "But I'll push the 'popcorn' button." I said "How do you know which one is popcorn?" He pointed to it and said "Because it SAYS popcorn!" Well shoot. How do you argue with that? And why does he keep figuring out words like that when he can't remember the sound that "th" makes so he can pronounce the word "the"?
- also? I have a headache and I'm tired. :) Hope everyone is doing well!!!
