When we were at Priscilla's house on Saturday, Aowyn started crying dramatically again about something. Jake said "Oh! I should have brought my camera." hee
On our way there, while looking out the window Jake randomly asked me "Why are wheels round?" I said "Because otherwise they wouldn't roll." He said "But what would happen if they were square?" I said "What do you think?" He said "I think they would go 'ka-thunk, ka-thunk, ka-thunk.'" Then he proceeded to chant "ka-thunk, ka-thunk, ka-thunk" the rest of the ride.
The brakes on our car squeak sometimes, and Jake noticed it yesterday. He asked what the sound was, and I said the brakes squeaked sometimes. He said "Maybe they need some oil." "Yeah," I said, "they probably do." He said "My dad can fix it!" I told him that cars have to be looked at by mechanics who know about cars. He said "But my dad can fix ANYTHING. And I will help him. We will put oil ALL OVER the car."
So dad is suddenly Superman, but Jake is now second-guessing everything I do. We were driving home from church, and I guess he's seeing all the roads we take with new eyes, because they don't seem familiar anymore -- even though we take the SAME ROUTE every Sunday to and from church. As we made our way toward the interstate, Jake said "Are you sure this is the right town?" Then to stop at Target on the way home: "Are you sure this is the right Target?" We bought an awesome marble run toy (pictures to come tomorrow-ish) and as I was putting it together, he asked "Are you sure you're doing it right?"
And now for the cutest:
On Friday night as he was falling asleep, Jake had just had a bath and was drifting off. Out of nowhere, he said "Mama, monkeys don't take baths."
Holding back laughter, I said, "No Jake, they don't."
He was quiet for a while, then said "But how they get clean?"
I said "They get wet in the rain, or they play in rivers or lakes, I guess."
He simply said "Oh," and I swear was asleep within 15 seconds.
