If you don't like or care about Grey's Anatomy, skip this entry.
If you DO like the show . . . is it annoying the crap out of you?
And it's not just that they're making Mer even MORE dark and twisty than she already is, or that supposedly half a year (in Grey's time) after her "Pick me, choose me, love ME" speech, she randomly dumps Der because her best friend's lack of a wedding tears away all hope for a normal life for her. Whatever.
What bothers me is that they REALLY don't think time-lines through. Or back stories. Or even things that are supposed to happen in the same day. If I were an editor and the overall Grey's 3 seasons of script were a book that was submitted to me, I would hand it back with a note that said "You have some good stuff here. But you really need to rethink your set-up and your continuity. It doesn't quite make sense, and you're going to confuse everyone. Not to mention the fact that you are continually painting yourself into a corner with timelines"
Because you know what? Viewers are smart. And we expect a lot. Add to this we have the episodes on TiVo, I-tunes, DVD, and some of us losers still video-tape them. When we remember something that seems to not add up, WE LOOK IT UP! (And damn, we have the internet! We talk with other fans about it if we're not sure!) And if you create a show that ends up with a cult following, DUH! People will be paying close attention. And they will CARE when things don't add up.
So first we had the Chief's career completely unclear: when exactly was he affairing with Ellis (yes, I just made up a new verb), when did he leave to go to New York & how long was he there, how long has he been at Seattle Grace, yadda yadda. Everything with he and Ellis makes no sense, time-wise. But I was mad about that LAST season, and I no longer care.
I can almost get on board with the whole "everything in the 3 seasons thus far have happened within a year thing" (almost. ok, not really), but the Mer/Lexi thing . . . Meredith was 4 when her dad left. And Lexi is a year behind her in school? Thatcher had time to meet, date, and marry someone else and then have a baby, and Lexi is still 1 year behind Mer in the quest to be a doctor? Really? Did Mer take 5 years between college and med school? Because that's the only way that's possible, unless her dad was having an affair and a baby while he was still married to Ellis. I know Mer went to Europe for a few months before deciding to go to med school, but really. Come on.
And has anyone else noticed that although there were like 30 interns starting the year in the 1st episode, every time something happens and an intern is needed, it's like Mer and friends are their only choices. Where the hell are those other 25 people? And in some episodes it's like they FORGET to write in extras in the hallways and stuff . . . only the pretty shiny interesting characters that revolve around Mer are even shown. In that whole, huge hospital, the same 12 people just keep bumping into each other
Someone who actually knows about these things mentioned on a message board that there's no WAY Addison could have all the schooling, training, fellowships, certifications, and experience that she's supposed to have and just be 39. Isn't that something they should at least count backward with to make sure it would fit in a character's life thus far before claiming she's all that?
And how could Ava/Rebecca have had brain surgery 2 weeks (2 days? who knows in Grey's time) and still have a full head of hair afterward? What's THAT about?
It makes my brain hurt to think about all these stupid things. At least The Office delivered in their finale. I'll spend the summer wondering what happens next to Pam and Jim . . . certainly not worrying much about the Seattle Grace people. Because I'm not sure anymore if it's worth my energy.
Hmmm, disappointing to read that Grey's is not making a lot of sense. I'm still all snuffly - George's dad passed away in tonite's episode here in Aus :(

I guess I haven't noticed all of those things you pointed out. I still love the show anyway!! :)

Tell me about it! I hated, no HATED the finale. In some ways I think Shonda Rhimes knows how much she screwed up this season and felt the only way to fix it was to start over with a clean slate next year but by doing it this way she pissed a lot of people off and they won't even come back next year to watch.
I saw that comment about Addison too, about how she must be like 120 if she had that much education, too funny! We must read the same boards.
