Jake's school is closed today because a child that attends the school has a dangerous disease that no one in the civilized world should ever catch.
But the child's mother decided not to immunize him. And fine, whatever. It's not my business if someone wants to risk their child catching potentially deadly diseases.
But it does make me mad that because of this decision, a school is closed, a child is extremely sick, and I am paying for a day of school that Jake isn't attending and I won't get a refund on. Oh, and the CDC is having to visit the school. So that's fun.
The thing that bothers me the most, is that when an un-immunized child gets a disease that was preventable, they are then a risk to expose newborns who haven't had a chance to be immunized yet to the disease. Yes, a family in the area experienced this recently, too.
And the most annoying part is, bloggers who don't believe in immunizing can go on and on about how awful and cruel and pointless they think it is, but someone who stands 100% behind immunization and expresses frustration about how they're affected by it is thought to be judgmental and closed minded if they talk about it.
I'm with you on this one. I'm understand that some parents think that immunization is
Eeee-vil, but I'm the parent who sweats every illness. Because of Chico's CAH, things like a simple fever can quickly become life threatening. I guess they don't realize that the whole reason these diseases are now nearly nonexistant is the vaccines themselves. Had everyone in history chosen not to vaccinate when they became available, we'd still be losing children to these diseases in the huge numbers of years past.

I 100% agree. Elauna and Jake attend school together so she is affected as well. At least our children were protected from the disease.

That is crazy! I would be pissed too if I were you. I think that parent should have to pay you back for the days Jake misses.
