So I was sitting here folding laundry (that's what all the cool kids do on Friday nights, you know) and after seeing a blue million Christmas shopping commercials on TV this week, I got to thinking about what I wish I would get for Christmas this year.
Not that I expect to get any of it, mind you. Because I don't get many Christmas presents. I have a birthday coming up right after Christmas, but I don't get many birthday presents, either. But just for kicks, and so I can look back on it later, here is what I really want as I look around my house.
-- curtains on our downstairs windows.
-- new toilet seats for my bathroom and the downstairs half-bath
-- a new set of pink hand towels for the downstairs half-bath
-- some bath towels. Like, the freaking huge ones. Need to be purple
-- to have my car's inside detailed and shampoo'd (Jake threw up again this trip -- did last Thanksgiving, too -- but the smell isn't horrid this year. I thought ahead and most of it made it into the bucket we brought.)
-- a new big purse/tote kinda thing. I never have enough of those and always have a ton of stuff to carry around when I take Jake places.
-- cool house slippers. We're keeping our house at 71 this winter, and it's killing me. They would have to slip all the way around my feet, I hate any shoes that are backless
-- for all of my student loan debt to be magically erased. Think Santa can talk to Sallie Mae about that?
-- a new dust-buster. We bought ours when Jake was born, and it sucks. Or, it doesn't suck. That's the problem.
Truth be told, I will probably end up buying these things for myself throughout the next year. Well, except for the student loan thing. 'Cause that's hopeless, yo.
Wondering what to get for the people on your list?
When in doubt? If you don't know what to get someone -- especially a teacher or someone you don't know well enough to get them a great gift, think GIFT CERTIFICATES. Where? Here are some thoughts:
-- Starbucks
-- McDonald's if that's where they get their morning coffee. Or if they take their kids there.
-- Target. You just can't go wrong with Target.
-- a local bookstore or Amazon.com
-- Bath & Body Works
-- any restaurant. I like O'Charley's, but I'm weird.
-- scrapbookers on your list? Get them a gift certificate to ACherryOnTop.com so they can go shopping on-line! Or Michael's, if they have one locally.
-- kids on your list? Online toy stores like AllAboardToys.com offer gift certificates
HAPPY SHOPPING!
