Season 3, episode 2

Ok, let's talk about last night's Grey's Anatomy.

So last night.

Tongue-tie appointment

Yesterday we met with a ENT doctor to talk about fixing Jake's tongue tie.  (here's the link about that, again.)  Jake was really good and actually let the doctor look in his mouth.  We had to wait like 1/2 an hour past our appointment time to be seen, though, and it was a $30 co-pay and the doctor only talked to us for like 7 minutes.  But whatever.

We're scheduled for October 11th early in the morning to get it done.  It's an out-patient surgery, they'll put him to sleep with a mask, and we'll be done in like 15 minutes.  Then nothing salty or spicy for a week.  It sucks that he has to go through this, but really it's a minor procedure, and I'm looking forward to his speech and eating improving.

Weekend = not fun

Jake got really sick Saturday night and was sick most of Sunday.  He kept throwing up, couldn't keep anything down, had dry heaves on an empty stomach.  I did a LOT of bed making and laundry on Saturday night.  The worst part was, we were at my mom's to take care of the dogs because mom had gone to North Carolina for the weekend to see her friend.  It was not fun.  (But at least the first time he threw up -- ALL the food he'd been eating all day -- he was outside on the porch and all I had to do was take buckets of water out there and throw them on the puke to clean it up.)

Jake finally started feeling better on Sunday afternoon, after I'd made him stay laying down all day until I knew he was ok.  He would argue with me about it but then fall asleep for hours at a time.  We had a lot of arguments about sipping versus guzzling water, but he finally got the taking sips thing. I had Lou bring us over some KFC, with enough for Mom and Kathy when they felt like eating -- cooking after a 7 hour drive isn't fun, you know.  And I wanted mashed potatoes for Jake since he seemed to be keeping down crackers and water.  Mom got home at like 7 p.m. on Sunday, and Jake immediately started asking if he could spend the night.  Know what he said? "But mom, I've been ALL DAY with you!"  (thanks, that makes me feel really good.)  (He also randomly looked at me and said "Your hair looks funny like that."  Well you know it's not like I haven't TAKEN A SHOWER all day because I've been CLEANING UP YOUR PUKE!  But whatever.  heh.)  Once mom was convinced that Jake wouldn't be puking any more (and I really hope he didn't), she said he could stay, and I left at 9.

And then I watched my Grey's Anatomy DVD until midnight.  I had been laying down most of the day and was too awake to sleep.  And now I'm too tired to work, but here I am.  heh.

My Grey's Anatomy top 20 favs

So I thought of something fun we can do (and "we" being the hard-core, crazy Grey's Anatomy fans.) 

Here are my top 20 favorite moments and quotes from Grey's Anatomy, off the top of my head.  I'm sure I'm missing some fabulous ones, but these are the ones that stand out in my mind.

1.  Mer to Der:  "You don't get to call me a whore.  When I met you, I thought I had found the person I was going to spend the rest of my life with.  I was done. So all the boys, and all the bars, and the obvious daddy issues, who cared? Because I was done.  You left me.  You chose Addison.  I'm all glued back together now.  I make no apologies for how I chose to repair what YOU broke.  You don't get to call me a whore."

2.  The smile on Der's face when he finally told Mer he loved her.  (Season 3, premiere.)

3.  Mid-season 2:  The moment when Callie was cutting George's hair and he grabbed her arm, turned around, and kissed her.  I like Callie.  She's dark and freaky, but she's REAL.  I like that.

4.  The hot Mer/Der sex in the exam room in the season 2 finale.  WOW.

5.  Bailey while giving birth:  "O'Malley, stop looking at my VA-JAY-JAY!"

6.  Izzie (talking to Mer about Finn): "Four dates, two sleepovers at his house, and you haven't had sex?  Oh.  Oh, I am like a proud mama."

7.  Mer: "We're adults.  When did that happen?  And how do we make it stop?"

8.  When Dr. Bailey was back after bedrest for her pregnancy and yelling at her interns, and George just stepped forward and hugged her.  SWEET GEORGE.  Then her water broke on his shoes.  heh.

9.  Speaking of which, George's speech convincing Dr. Bailey to stop fighting it, and to sit up and have the baby.  That was the day I fell in love with George (and my 3rd favorite moment on this list from that episode.  heh.)

10.  Callie in season 3 premiere: "She's 17, Finn.  We're all 17.  This is high school with scalpels."  And her "I'm a freak.  I'm the girl in the back of the class, eating her hair."  Again, I LOVE Callie.

11.  Finn to Mer, season 3 premiere again: "I know you think you're scary and damaged."  Mer: "Dark and twisty."  ha ha ha ha ha.

12.  Der to George, same episode: "SOONISH?  I will love you SOONISH?"  That whole scene kicked ass.

13.  Mer to Alex: "Dude, you lost your mojo."  "Excuse you?"  "I was trying to talk boy." and later she tells him "I hope you find your mojo.  I find you disturbing without it."

14.  Christina: "You know, there have only been three careers I have ever wanted – ruler of my own planet, Wonder Woman, or a surgeon. And I don’t see any invisible planes or extra countries lying around."

15.  Season one, Der to Mer: "You blew me off for tequila?  Tequila's no fun.  It doesn't write.  It doesn't call.  It's not nearly as fun to wake up to in the morning."  And then they kiss.  Totally hot.

16.  Mark to Mer: "What if, just this once, fate comes down on the side of the dirty ex-mistress?"

17.  When Alex finally kissed Izzy at the bar. Then she just took a drink and said "Seriously."  heh.

18.  Mer's Pick me.  Choose me.  Love me. speech.  'Nuff said.

19.  (Right after Der chose Addie and everyone was gossipping about her.)  When everyone is in the "pregnant guy"'s room and Mer goes crazy yelling at them, telling them to leave him alone and if they want to stare at and talk about her, that's fine, but to give the patient some privacy.  Then Der is looking at her across the hallway and she says "And what are YOU looking at."  I love when she summons the courage to stand up for herself.

20.  Burke to Chr: "Should we talk about this?"  (their randomly having sex all the time in season 1.  heh.)  C: "yeah, totally"  and walks away.  heh.  And later when he pushes she says "You need a definition?  You wanna be THAT guy?"

21.  Ooh, ooh, one more.  Season two premiere when Mer is trying to process the fact that her boyfriend has a wife.  She's trying to leave the building, in the rain, and drunk, and he's trying to explain.  He says "I know how you feel."  And she says "Do you? Somehow I doubt that.  Because if you did, you would shut up and you would turn around and walk go back inside.  Because you would understand that I am THIS CLOSE to getting in my car and running you down IN THE PARKING LOT."  And then Geroge runs after her with an umbrella and drives her home.  Sweet wonderful George.

22.  heh.  another one more.  Early in Season two when Addie is in town and Mer is all mad at Der for not telling her he's married.  Addie and Der are at the elevator.  Der says "You know, you really are Satan.  If Satan took human form, he'd be you.  Everywhere.  All the time."  Addie: "Quit being petty."  Der: "Quit being an adulterous bitch."  HA HA HA HA.

Today and G's A

So my mom decided to take off this weekend to go to North Carolina and see an old friend (Andrea: Hugh's wife Dot.  good times, eh?) and she gave me a whole 6 days warning.  So I had the day off work and basically spent it hanging out with Jake, running errands, and doing housework.  A day off in my world is anything but restful or productive.  But we did get to sleep in.  And we got a few things done.  And that's why I've not posted an entry yet, raving about how awesome the G's A premiere was.

I knew that because of Jake I wasn't going to be able to watch it closely, so I taped it while I watched it (yes, I'm the only loser without a TiVo.  Life's hard, I know.)  Then after it was over, I watched it again, and I watched it again this morning.  And I will probably watch it again tonight.

So the flashbacks.  I LOVED the flashbacks.  Getting to see the backstory on the characters was like getting to see an old episode I never knew I'd missed.  The night Mer and Der met?  Awesome.  The night Der found Addie cheating?  Heart-breaking.  I literally could only watch it the first time, and every time since I've fast-forwarded it.  Too emotional, and I'm too wrapped up in the characters; it's painful to watch.  I had to fast-forward the scene where Dr. Bailey was talking through the door to the husband guy after his wife died; she is feeling so much guilt about Denny dying, and again, talk about raw emotion!  I can't deal with that right now.

At first I was annoyed because the episode was so slow and the plot didn't really move forward much at all.  But dude.  SO MUCH happened in the finale, we needed to deal with those emotions before moving on with the season.  You don't just jump back into life after a night like that, and I like that the writers made an effort at some closure.  I have no doubts that starting next week the episodes will be fast-paced and crazy again.  And I really like that they start the day after it happened -- as Shonda (the creator) said on the writer's blog, "The first episode is going to take place pretty much where the end of Season Two left off.  Because I don’t believe in jumping ahead three months and leaving people scratching their heads and muttering, “Dude…what happened while we were away?” "  EXACTLY.

My favorite line of the night?  Callie telling Finn about how really, they're all 17.  "This is high school with scalpels."  hee hee.  I also loved when Der was giving George a hard time because he said he didn't love her, but he could, soonish.  "Soonish?  I will love you SOONISH?"  ha ha ha.  And I also loved that it was because of George that Der realized he needed to tell Mer he loved her.  And yes, oh my word, the smile on his face when he said it . . . MCDREAMY.  And MCYUMMY.  It kills me that they have intense scenes like that and then he walks away and they don't touch.  Come on, people!  That was as bad as the night of the bomb episode when he came to her house and they talked and never touched.  HUG HER OR SOMETHING.

I can't take the suspense.  Thursdays can not come fast enough for me.  And I'm SO taping every episode this year, AND buying the DVD when it comes out.

P.S. was anyone disappointed at how anti-climatic The Office was?  I had my mom tape it for me, and watched it today.  Don't get me wrong, it was heck-a-hilarious once they got going, but the Pam and Jim thing, to leave it hanging ALL SUMMER and then barely focus on it?  Give us SOMETHING!

Seriously.

Yesterday Lou asked me when the season premiere of Grey's Anatomy was.

Thursday the 21st.  It's on Thursdays this year.

Oh really?

Yeah, so I'll need you to leave me alone every Thursday night for the rest of the year.

I seriously said that.  I have problems.

I don't like the Fall.

I just don't.  Priscilla does.  She keeps talking about sweater weather and coffee and blah blah blah.  (heh.)  There's just something about summer ending and fall taking over that I don't like.  Maybe because spring is my favorite season, with all the renewal and new growth and the warmth and the promise of a carefree summer ahead.  I also can't deal with it getting dark so early -- I need sunshine to function, people, and I never get home before like 6 anyway -- and I do NOT like just getting home when it's already dark!  Fall just brings cold weather, school and stress, the holiday season (which is too hurried and expensive and over-commercialized for my taste, thanks) and at the end of it all, I'm another year older.  And maybe that's the real reason I don't like fall, it makes me too aware of how quickly time flies by.

So I admit it, I'm a fall hater.  And I'm not apologizing for it.  So there.

Update: Growing

Jake was literally off the charts at his doctor's appointment.  His height: three foot eight.  He is 44 inches tall.  That is quite large for a new four year old.  He's above the 100th percentile.  He weighed in at 47.5 pounds, but he SO doesn't weigh that -- it's usually 44 or 45 on any scale we use.  Again, above the 100th percentile.

The doctor's appointment went REALLY well.  I had a long list of things I wanted to talk to the doctor about.  Jake pee'd in a cup, so they were able to do a diabetes test, and it was negative.  His blood pressure is good.  The doctor says I can start giving him Claratin for seasonal allergies and gave me a prescription for a nasal spray for his nose bleeds.  They are referring me to an ENT to talk about getting his tongue clipped soon (a simple surgery.  Here are details about it.)  We talked about a lot of random stuff, but long story short, he says Jake looks great.

Our ped is very helpful and always calm and always nice and great with kids.  I could really tell that therapy has been helping Jake with his social anxiety, because he was excited to see the doctor and was actually interacting with him instead of being scared.  I think that was the best part of the whole day.
