Ok, so I haven't had much to say this week . . . been busy at work and deep in thought about my website and scrapbooking and life in general. Good times.
I DO want to write, quickly, about Jake's appointments from last week before I forget:
Jake has been doing awesome going in to his social speech group without me -- the second that Melissa, his teacher, walks through the door, Jake jumps up and grabs her hand. He did really good in that group on Thursday, then on Friday when his OT Rachel came in the room, Jake jumped up and grabbed her hand, ready to go. Rachel said "Oh, you're ready? Do we need mom?" And Jake said "No, she can stay here." WOW! So Rach said I could watch through the window.
They got SO much more done without me in there -- because Jake constantly looks my way for approval and assurance for what he's doing, and that wastes a lot of time. She had him jump on a trampoline-like thing and then catch a heavy ball that she threw to him, then they played on a scooter thing -- he laid flat on it and used his arms to scootch around, back and forth to get puzzle pieces. She had him play in the body sock again and got him to stretch up and out as far as he could -- last time he would only curl up in a ball in it and say he was in a cave. They sat down at a table and played with fingerpaint, and get this: MY CHILD FINGER PAINTED! Like 100%, it was all over his hands, he was having a great time and didn't care about the mess on his hands, finger-painted. I was shocked. It was totally awesome. Then they did food therapy with strawberries, peaches, and strawberry jello -- he tasted all of them, and he actually liked the jello! Hooray!
Wow, sounds like he is doing just great!! YAY for fingerpainting :)
