Yesterday I talked to my mom on the phone, and she said that Zoe tried to take one of Jake's Thomas books to read, and Jake grabbed it away from her and said "You can't read that! You have to read GIRL books!" WHERE did my child get that from? None of us have ever said anything like that around him. I guess my feminism card's going to be taken away from me.
We went shopping with Priscilla and the girls on Saturday, and among the tons of things I got for Jake, I got him some Disney's Cars wall stickers. We put them up together, so now one wall of his room is Thomas, along with his bed, and two walls have Car stuff on them. We were getting ready for bed last night and Jake said "What this room about?" Which meant "What's on the walls?" Then we had to sit there and name every single character on the walls.
I was working on a scrapbook page about Jake and my mom, and I asked him who the page was about. He said "I wish . . . I want you make a page about you and me . . . .YOU'RE MY BEST FRIEND." Totally out of nowhere. It was so stinking cute.
On another day, he asked me if I used to be little like him, and I said yes, a long time ago. He said "I want . . . I wish . . . you were little like me and we would play in a tent." HOW CUTE IS THAT?!
Part of what makes Jake Jake is that he obsesses over random things. We were watching Toy Story 2 the other day and the part where the toys are climbing off the roof of the house to go rescue Woody, they all use the Slinky Dog to get down, then the dog grabs his own bottom, looks at the camera, and falls. That part totally cracks me up. I started laughing and said "The dog grabbed his butt." Yes, in retrospect I shouldn't have said that to a little boy. For the whole rest of the movie Jake just kept laughing and over and over saying "The dog grabbed his butt." Even the next day he was obsessing about it, and if I mention Toy Story, that's what he says.
Every day on the drive home, Jake asks "Are we gonna go somewhere today?" He calls Walgreens "the picture store" because that's where we go with a disk to get digital prints. And when I DO say yes, we're going to go somewhere, he always says "I want a toy! I want a little car. I need a new car!" The boy has so many cars I had to get a plastic tub to keep them in, but no, he thinks he needs a new one every day. It doesn't help that on the way home we drive by Kmart, Kroger, Walgreens, CVS, and Publix. On the other hand, it's nice to be in a civilized area where there's actually STORES around. (Yes, that was a Colstrip dig. Haven't had one of those in a while. heh.)
Oh, and then once we get home, Jake starts asking "Are we gonna do an activity today? Are we gonna do a craft? Mom? Are we gonna do activities?" Every single day I tell him that when we first get home I want to sort through the mail, put my stuff up, and change clothes before we think about doing anything. But every single day he pesters me about what we're doing next.
Jake's arm is still kind of nasty where the cast was -- at this point it's mostly a red rash and callouses around his hands. So I've been putting Eucerin lotion (which is like clear paste) on it and of course Jake hates it -- he hates lotion of any kind. He starts freaking out and flailing about and says "I'm gonna shake it off!" Goof.
