Here's my latest edition of "Funny stuff Jake says."
The other day I told Jake he's getting big, and he told me he wanted to be tall like me. "Oh really?" I asked. Then he said, "I want to be tall like you and reach the toys on top of the TV!" (We have a high TV armoire and keep Jake's puzzles on top of it -- I have a no mult-piece toys without supervision rule at home. LOL.)
Since we can't go swimming until the cast is off (I know it's waterproof, but I'm not blow-drying an immersed cast until it's dry), Jake's content to SEE the YMCA every day when we drive by. If he forgets to look for it or I forget to tell him to look, he gets totally sad and says "I didn't see the Y-Ms." Poor kid. Then we were doing flashcards one night and for Y I said "Yo-yo and yak and yellow start with Y" and he said "AND YMCA DOES!" ha ha ha. When we get to M, I say "what else starts with M?" and he points to me (Mama.) Smart kid!
When I'm talking about what we'll be doing and when, and I say "tomorrow," Jake asks "Today-tomorrow?" Every time. And I say, "No, tomorrow. After we go to sleep and wake up." And his concept of past-tense consists of "last night" and "last week." No matter how long ago something happened, it's one of those for him. (But hey, he's trying.)
Now this is something I DON'T like him saying, but deep down I think it's funny. When he's mad or we're talking about something he doesn't like (like doctors or whatever) he says "I'm gonna knock them down!" Or he says he's going to push them into a ravine. He never actually DOES anything to anyone (although he's been randomly smacking daddy lately, but just playfully), but he talks about it all the time. It's his little way of controlling his world, I guess.
We've been watching Monsters Inc. a lot lately -- we used to watch it, then he got into Thomas. So I guess it's been a year. But then we watched it in the ER when Jake broke his arm, and he's interested in it again. And now that he's watching it as an older child with a brain that goes a mile a minute, he's asking all these questions. And I try to explain to him that it's just a story. He asks why Mike only has one eye. Because that's just how they drew him, I say. Why is Randall mean? Well, honey, some people are mean. And the one part where he makes the same comment every time . . . toward the beginning, after the Scare Floor has been shut down because of the sock incident, Mr. Waternoose is filling his cup with coffee-sludge. And EVERY TIME, Jake says "Why Monsters drink sludge? I don't drink sludge."
We were talking about the Cars movie, and he was asking me all these random questions. (He LOVES that movie. He goes around sometimes just saying over and over, very enthusiastically: "Lightning McQueen! Lightning McQueen! Lightning McQueen!" Just like a television announcer would. Such a goof.) Oh. Ok, so he was asking me questions about the movie, and I didn't remember everything. So I said "Honey, I don't know. I don't remember." And little genius that he is, with a twinkle in his eye, said "I think we have to go see it again." So depending on how the weekend goes, I might take him again.
Wait, one more cute Cars story. One of the several books we have about Cars (hey, if your kid is interested in something and you know it will get him reading, BUY BOOKS ABOUT IT!) is just about the race at the beginning. As it's introducing the characters, when talking about McQueen, it says "He was fast. He was young. He was . . . " and then you turn the page and it says "Lightening McQueen!" Now a lot of times when we're reading, I pause at spots to let Jake tell me what he thinks the next words will be. He memorizes stuff really well, so it's a fun way for him to be a part of it. So the first probably 10 times we read it, I would pause there. And each time, I'd say "He was fast. He was young. He was . . . " and Jake would say "RED!" ha ha ha. He stopped doing it after a while, and I'm a little sad about that now, because it made me laugh EVERY TIME.

This afternoon I'm meeting with Jake's therapists to talk about which therapies we're going to pursue. I'm a little nervous about it. I talked with some people from the school system, and they won't be able to really talk to me about what they might possibly be able to do until mid-August. 'doh! So wish me luck!!!!
SO. CUTE. I have got to start being better about blogging about Nathan and Austin. Sigh.
I have had a page or two of stuff written down about Nathan for months now, still need to type it up before he is 30. lol.
Will be thinking of you and Jake! Good luck! I know he (and you!) will do great!

Hi Woman,
I haven't been here in awhile! The cast? What happened to Jake?
Must have been something in the air--my son fell 20' on April 30th and broke his leg & both arms, required 10 stitches in his chin, etc. But he's already running again, so, we're thankful for that.
But email me the dish about your beautiful (& funny!) boy!
