Ok, let's catch up on birthday stuff. It's only two weeks afterward, I'm not THAT far behind, right?
Daddy was in charge of planning our party for just us. Well, it was GOING to be just us -- but then Lou decided he wanted his friend Hart-man from work to come over, and I said "If Bryan's coming over, then Priscilla and the girls are coming over, too." (I hate being outnumbered by a bunch of smelly boys! And having her and the girls over brings me back to the majority! Elauna was SO excited to come over and see the new Elmo toy Jake got -- the very first thing she did was round up all the Elmo's. She's SO silly.) (oh, and this picture of Bryan makes me laugh SO HARD. He really IS that tall. Run away from the giant, kids! LOL.) So Lou did the grocery shopping, party prep, and cooking, and I just had to show up!
He got Jake an AWESOME Thomas the Train cake, as well as bought little presents for each of the girls so they would feel included in the gift giving (and he picked them out PERFECT toys. A little Elmo talking toy for Aowyn and a Little People doll for Elauna. They LOVE them.) Jake was way excited about his birthday party. We ate burgers and chips first (complete with Lou's famous sour cream / ranch dip -- YUM), and all the kids wanted to do was get into the cake. Finally we got out the cake, sang to Jake, and let him blow out the candles about three times (this is because [a] the kid LOVES blowing out candles, and [b] my camera has too long of a delay and I wanted to make sure I got some pictures.) I also had Lou get a little cake (cakes were from the bakery that Aunt Julie's mother owns, they rock!)
and on it I put some sugar letters to spell "Dog Mills." Why? Because Jake had been asking for a dog cake for his birthday, and while Lou decided that Thomas would be great (and it was!), Jake wasn't letting go of his dog cake idea. Jake says his name is Dog Mills all the time, so to us, it made sense. Jake really liked it, but the funny thing was he STILL wasn't convinced he had a dog cake until we put some ScoobyDoo sugar thingies on the cupcakes at his party that next Saturday (and that party is for a whole other entry!)
You'll remember that I'd already let Jake open his Weeble town that morning, so that evening's presents were all from daddy. And HOLY COW. Lou went all out. He got Jake a big workbench in addition to a small talking one (I guess we're hoping Jake will be a carpenter?), some pj's and clothes (that *I* was excited about, but Jake could care less), some Star Wars figures, and some Thomas the Train stuff. (Am I forgetting anything, Lou?) Jake was in MAJOR sensory overload by this time, and I don't think he knew WHAT to think. The kids congregated around the big tool bench, I think that was their favorite item of the night. We got the video camera out (which we are SO bad about) and got a few minutes of video. (Almost all the video footage we have of Jake, it has Elauna in too -- because it's always when they're playing that it dawns on us to take the camera out, and
she's always there for all our significant events! My mom commented once that his grandkids are going to wonder who in the world she is and why she's in all the pictures, videos, scrapbooks, and I said "Well they'll just have to get married and then it will make perfect sense." LOL. JUST KIDDING.) It was nice to have Priscilla there to help me with the cameras and to hold the cake up so I could get a picture of Jake with it. (She's not only my bestest friend, she's my personal assistant! ha ha!)
Anyway, Lou is a WAY better party planner than I am (not to mention, better cook), so he made Jake's birthday really special. (Thank you, dear.) Now just one more birthday entry, about his TODDLER party, and we're good to go. ;o)
