Warning: a bit of cussing in the next paragraph. and in the P.S. umm, and in the comments.
My boss let me leave work for a bit in the middle of the day and go fill up with gas today. Luckily it was only $2.75 and I only needed 7 gallons. I wouldn't have had time to fill up until late this evening, and I'll bet prices will be higher even by then. WHATEVER. I don't claim to understand all this gas price shit, I just know it's killing my budget. I ESPECIALLY don't understand why auto-makers and scientists and engineers and all that haven't been trying harder in the past 20 years to explore alternative energy sources than oil. Damn, we've known forever that it's theoretically possible to run a car on something other than gas, and that all the gas in the world won't last forever, but by and large the majority of people who could do something to change things have been sitting around with their thumbs up their butts. Maybe this will be a good enough kick in the ass for them to actually TRY to get us away from being so oil dependent.
Good times.
*Edited to add: Ok, this is funny: I e-mailed my boss this picture, and I had to sit and explain to her what all those abbreviations meant. LOL. *
P.S. 9-1-05 -- Gas jumped THIRTY CENTS at most places between yesterday and today. There ARE stations in Nashville that are completely out of gas, other stations are only selling the mid and high grade gasses. My [boss] and [boss boss] were telling me the other day there was something similar that happened in the 70's and that this reminds them of that all over again. I know that bitching about it doesn't help matters, but this blog is also about recording what's going on in my life, and this is a pretty big fucking piece of my life right now.
P.P.S. I did some math. I use about 30 gallons a week between commuting, picking up Jake, and all the shopping sprees I go on (you know, my monthly trip to Target?). Here is how differring gas prices affects me:
