So I bought this skort a few weeks ago, while on a Lane Bryant shopping mission with my sister Kathy. (We were shopping for her, but I couldn't pass this up.) It looks great with a black v-neck t-shirt. Remember that old rule in school that your shorts/skirt was too short if you put your hands next to your sides and the skirt was higher than your fingertips? (Incidentally, when I was in high school, the lunch-line lady was a Nazi about this [Andrea -- Alan's mom] and I SO didn't dress slutty in high school. We're talking jeans and a t-shirt every day. Well once I wore a one piece button up, shorts jean jumper kind of thing [I swear it was cute -- Andrea, do you remember it? Back me up here!] Anyway, I hadn't been in her sight for more than 5 seconds and she got this bitchy look on her face and said "Put your hands to your side!" She was SO ready to send me to the office to be sent home. I looked her straight in the eye and slowly put my arms to my side -- and she saw that I had a good two inches past my fingertips. The look of confusion and embarrassment on her face was priceless. All she said was "oh." heh.) SO, back to today's skort -- this skort comes a good 3 inches below my fingertips when I wear it. But I'm pretty tall (well, compared to short people), so it LOOKS like the skort is freaking short. Also, if you don't know there are shorts under the skirt, it looks like I might be being a little slutty. But I'm not, people! This skort fits me perfectly and it's long enough and it's comfortable! And I don't feel fat when I'm wearing it! (Which is a miracle in and of itself!)
Why am I so defensive? Last weekend when I wore it, Lou made a comment implying I looked less than virtuous (finally get away from those high school preppy bitches and now it's the husband calling me slutty?), and when I walked into work wearing it today, my boss said "Oh look, a mini-skirt!" I mean damn, I wouldn't go bike-riding in it (assuming I had a bike and/or energy to ride it), but I look cute and it's plenty long, so leave me alone, people!
