Whenever we leave mom's house, Jake is heart-broken to leave the dog. About a mile into the drive, he pipes up from the backseat: "Miss dog. Mama. Miss dog." And I have to say "Do you miss Sadie?" And he replies, "Yeah." Tuesday when he said this, I said, "Mommy misses you when I'm at work," and he kind of looked at me like I was crazy. (At this point in my life, that SO doesn't phase me.) Wednesday night we were laying down to sleep, and Jake had his usual TALK TO ME time, and we were talking about what we would do the next day. I told him that after I went to work, I would come home to Nana's and get him. And he said "Miss Jake? Work?" And I laughed and said "Yes, mommy misses Jake when I'm at work." This is a big deal for him because he's finally processing the things I tell him and actually assigning emotion to things, so that makes me feel really good about his progress with speech.
But here's an even better one:
Mom and Kathy took Jake to Hardee's on Wednesday for lunch. He had a chocolate milk with a straw in it, and he flicked the straw out of the bottle and got milk ALL over Kathy's head. (*High Five!* Good job, buddy!) Anyway, mom said "Uh-oh, you got Kathy all wet." Jake looked at Kat and (mom says clear as day) said "Shake ya' head. It'll dry." LOL.
