Monday I got another birthday present for Jake in the mail (only 5 weeks late! ha ha.) My sister Sheri (aka "PinkStuff") really knows my child. She got him a package of socks, a shirt and pants outfit with a baseball on it, a pad of drawing paper that is really huge post-its, and a huge Winnie-the-Pooh board book that plays TWENTY songs!
When we were walking up to our house I saw the package against the door and I said "Jake, that must be for you." He looked at me, got really excited, and picked up the package. He carried it inside and I put down my stuff and started to go through the rest of the mail. He looked at me like I was crazy, sat down on the floor, and tried to open his package. He TOTALLY gets the whole present thing now.
I was the most excited about the socks and outfit, but he immediately loved the book. He loves Pooh anyway, and loves any toy that makes noise. He literally played with that book all night. And last night it was all he wanted to talk about or play with. He even insisted on bringing it upstairs with us when it was time for bed!
Later I put up some post-it papers on the walls by his desk so he could color on THEM and not the actual wall, and he ended up making a beautiful picture. He loves the color purple and I have no idea why -- it's my absolute favorite color ever, but I've never told him that or pushed the color in any way (like I used to with kids I baby-sat. It was always one of the first words I taught kids. heh. I had one little girl who used to pick up things that were purple and say "Jenny?")
He also drew a "9" with a blue crayon (I think accidentally) but when he saw it, he pointed to it and said "Nine? nine? nine?" Go Jake! (You can see it in the above coloring picture, on the right side of the page in light blue.)
Anyway, he drew some beautiful pictures, but he didn't stay on the paper -- he spilled over to the wall, too. Then he decided it'd be a good idea to color on the cabinets for me (white IS a little dull, I guess. See pic to right.) URG. But the only crayons Jake has right now are the ones that easily wash off the walls, I just have to take the time to wash them off.
Anyway, Sheri you are a great sister (and auntie) and we really like the presents. You will be getting one of Jake's creations in the mail soon. Love you!!!
How sweet of your sister to remember Jake's b'day (albeit late)! The thought is what counts, right?
You are fortunate to have such a great sister! Family is sooo important to me!
