The wife of a high school friend knows me through Facebook as someone who likes spelling and grammar just a little too much. She sent me a message asking me to explain when to add an apostrophe and when it goes before or after the letter S, because she was trying to help her son with his homework and she didn't get it.
So here's a quickie review.
I need to stipulate for the right side, a word ending in S USUALLY means plural. Not always.
Same rules apply for showing possession, though. If someone named Lucas has a dog, it is Lucas' dog.
