I am a mom trying very hard to raise my son as an intelligent, loving, responsible person. What makes this journey interesting are the hurdles thrown in our path by some developmental and neuro issues.
My son is not his issues. But they are a part of the package - the brown eyes and hair, the above-average height, the crazy sense of humor, the cute freckle-moles in places like behind his ear and on his shoulder.
Through the years as I have dealt with Jake's issues and trying to raise him the best we can, there has been a lot of learning, and a lot of self-reflection. This is a place to try to share all of that with other parents.
Jake was born on September 12th, 2002.
P.S. the URL ending for the blog (strange) has a double meaning.
Strange is my last name. (Yes, seriously.) It is my maiden name, and I kept it because it is a part of me.
Also, kids who are quirky, odd, not-quite-typical . . . well, they get called "strange" from time to time. Better to embrace it than to be offended. (I have learned this from a life-time of odd comments.) :)
